In the vibrant district of 322G, a newly formed club called Kokrajhar Greater Lions International has embarked on an incredible journey of service. In just one year, the club has made a significant impact by providing books to 425 students and quality clothing to 31,340 individuals in need. Led by the Charter President Lion Mohit Nahata, this club of 54 dedicated members has taken on an innovative and sustainable project to transform a waste bus shelter into a cloth and book shelter. This permanent project not only supports the less fortunate but also revitalizes a neglected area, turning it into a beacon of hope for the community.

 

Breathing New Life into a Neglected Shelter:

Previously, an abandoned bus shelter in the city of Kokrajhar had become a haven for local gangs, serving as a shelter for anti-social activities. Recognizing the need for change, the members of the Kokrajhar Greater Lions International approached the local authorities with a project proposal to convert the space into a cloth and book shelter. Their vision was met with approval from the municipality, which handed over the property to the club, entrusting them with the responsibility of transforming the shelter.

 

Collaboration for Change:

With the support of a cloth shop owner, who is also a member of the club, high-quality new clothing is provided from deadstock inventory. Additionally, another member who owns a bookstore contributes books and notebooks regularly. This collaboration ensures a steady supply of resources for the Free Cloth Shop & Library, which has now become a valuable resource in the community.

The Free Cloth Shop & Library has quickly gained popularity and has become a daily destination for over 100 beneficiaries in the locality.
